A Chicago man accused of shooting two Venezuelan migrants outside a police station before leading officers on a high-speed chase that ended when he crashed into a CPD squad car has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Anthony Evans, 28, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery by discharging a firearm and aggravated DUI in exchange for concurrent sentences of 18 years and five years, respectively, according to court records. Judge Shelley Sutker-Dermer handled the case and sentenced Evans.
The incident unfolded on an afternoon in October 2023 outside the Grand Crossing (3rd) District police station at 7040 South Cottage Grove Avenue. Prosecutors said Evans opened fire outside the station, striking a 28-year-old woman in the buttocks and a 24-year-old man in the right thigh.
