SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A man was seriously injured after being shot by police officers on Monday evening.
According to the Utah Department of Transportation, there is a ‘police incident’ at 400 S and 600 E in Salt Lake City. Glen Mills, Chief of Staff with the Salt Lake City Police Department, confirmed that it was an officer-involved shooting.
Mills says that police responded to the scene around 8:20 p.m. after reports of an individual exhibiting “psychotic, violent” behavior. The suspect, identified only as a male, was running across the road, hitting vehicles, and yelling.
When officers arrived on scene, they determined the suspect had a knife on his person and refused commands to put the weapon down. Two officers fired at the suspect, hitting him. Subsequently, they were able to detain the suspect, and he was transported to the hospital.
