VALATIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Ichabod Crane Central School District has cut several staff positions as it continues to grapple with financial difficulties. The district said the reductions affected seven people in total.

Take a look below for the impacted positions, according to the district:
- One elementary teacher
- Two positions in the high school social studies department
- One part-time position in the middle school/high school art department
- One assistant principal
- One communications specialist
- One clerk-typist
Ichabod Crane officials also said the staff cuts will impact several programs across the district, including the K-5 STEAM program, the high school’s Discovering Computer Sciences courses, the high school’s Academic Intervention Services, and the middle school and high school’s art and music departments. The district has also reportedly reduced spending in consultant contracts, field trips, Monday late buses and more.
“We are deeply saddened by this situation, and we recognize the uncertainty and concern this creates across our entire Ichabod Crane community,” the district said. “Our principals and counselors have been working carefully to adjust teacher assignments and student schedules in order to accommodate these reductions and to be ready to welcome back our students.”

The school district has been working for several weeks to investigate its finances after a review of the 2025-2026 period uncovered operating deficits for a second year in a row. According to Superintendent Marie Digirolamo, preliminary findings from an independent team have shown that the data provided to the district to build the 2024-2025, 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 budgets was inaccurate and underbudgeted.
