The Brass Band of Battle Creek returned from South Korea after drawing nearly 3,000 concertgoers across three performances at the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival on Jeju Island. According to a community announcement, the Michigan-based ensemble joined more than 70 performing groups from 11 countries during the festival, held Aug. 8-15.
The tour began with a sold-out concert at the Jeju Art Center before 1,100 attendees, including the governor of Jeju Province and the mayors of Jeju City and Seogwipo. The performance included collaborations with Korean vocalists Seo Youngtaek and Kim Suin, who each performed solo selections with the band before joining for a duet of the traditional Korean folk song “Miryang Arirang.”
An outdoor performance at Tapdong Seaside Concert Hall attracted about 1,000 people despite strong winds and a typhoon warning issued earlier in the day. The audience joined in during an encore performance of “Golden” from the animated film “K-Pop Demon Hunters,” clapping and singing along…
