An Oxford man with a long history of violent felonies and a sexual offender status has been sentenced to two concurrent life terms in prison after a raid on his camper uncovered a massive stash of narcotics and a loaded firearm.
Clyde Edward Johnson Jr., 54, was sentenced last week by Judge Mary P. Hatcher as a habitual violent felony offender. A jury found Johnson guilty in April of trafficking in cocaine, trafficking in cathinones (MDMA), possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon, owning a place for the trafficking, sale or manufacture of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The life sentences stem from a Feb. 15, 2023, raid at a property at 10294 NE 12th Drive in Oxford. Detectives from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Squad had been investigating ongoing drug sales at the location and secured a search warrant.
As detectives prepared to execute the warrant, they conducted a traffic stop on Johnson and found him in possession of a key that opened a fifth-wheel camper parked on the target property…
