SLCPD officers shot man after using taser, civilian vehicle struck during incident

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Salt Lake City Police Department is providing additional information about an incident from Monday night where officers shot and seriously injured a man during an apparent psychiatric episode.

According to Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD), officers responded to a violent psychiatric problem at 575 East 400 South at 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 31. The person who called 911 said that the man hit their car and then started screaming in the street, and the caller believed he may be drunk.

Police found the man near the drive through of a business, and officers gave him several commands to sit down, but he refused. He tried to leave, but he encountered other officers. That’s when police say he stopped and brandished a knife towards the officers. Officers ordered him to drop the knife, but again, police say he refused…
