SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — From Fargo to Marshfield and now the Twin Cities, Sanford Health has steadily expanded its reach across the Midwest. The Sioux Falls-based health system’s latest move became official Tuesday with the completion of its merger with Minnesota’s North Memorial Health.
The deal between the two health systems was finalized on Tuesday. Sanford first announced the agreement in May. The Minnesota Attorney General’s office approved the transaction in late August as part of the state’s health care transaction review law.
North Memorial has over 20 clinics throughout Minnesota and two hospitals in the Twin Cities metro, Maple Grove and Robbinsdale. They employ over 6,500 people. In the agreement, the combined organization will invest $600 million in the two hospitals, according to a news release. As part of the deal, the Maple Grove hospital will be doubled in size.
