Lionel Richie was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit after his concert in St. Louis, Missouri, on Saturday, August 29. The legendary singer, known for hits like “Endless Love” and “All Night Long,” reportedly drove himself to the hospital but was then closely monitored by medical staff.
Reports indicate that Richie may have been dealing with mild dehydration and appeared fatigued during his performance. Fans at the show noticed he needed a stool to finish his final song of the night, “All Night Long (All Night).”
Though there was hope he would be discharged by Tuesday, September 1, Richie remains hospitalized in St. Louis as doctors continue to run heart tests. Sources say he is expected to be released by Wednesday.
This isn’t the first time Richie has faced health issues on tour. Earlier this year, he had to postpone several shows after feeling unwell during a performance in St.
Paul, Minnesota. On the opening night of that tour, he experienced dizziness and discomfort, leading to an ambulance trip to the hospital.
Richie’s next concert is scheduled for September 26 in San Francisco, giving him some time to recover.
These recent health challenges add to a history of medical issues for the singer. In the early 1990s, he underwent multiple surgeries for a throat condition.
More recently, in 2025, Richie shared in his memoir, Truly: An Inspirational Journey Through the Life of a Musical Legend, that he has been diagnosed with ADHD. He described his experience as having to “tap my foot or drum my hands to a beat only I could hear,” while managing overwhelming sensory input.
