Neighbor who filmed deadly Arlington explosion transforms blast site into luxury homes

ARLINGTON, Va. (DC News Now) — Nearly three years after a deadly home explosion rocked Arlington’s Bluemont neighborhood during a police standoff, the neighbor who recorded a viral video of the blast has transformed the property into three luxury homes.

Developer Alex Wilson is selling two of the homes and plans to move into the development with his wife and two children.

Wilson was living across the street on Dec. 4, 2023, when he climbed onto his roof and recorded the explosion that leveled a duplex on North Burlington Street. The video showed the building disappearing beneath a fireball as debris flew into the air.

Police had responded to the home after its owner, 56-year-old James Yoo, fired a flare gun dozens of times in the surrounding neighborhood. Yoo later fired at officers as they attempted to execute a search warrant and knock down the front door with an armored vehicle, according to investigators and video of the incident…
