Harmful algal bloom found in Austin Lake

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A public health advisory has been issued for a suspected harmful algal bloom at a lake in Portage.

According to the Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department, sampling results from Austin Lake tested positive for microcystin — a variant of cyanobacteria that can be harmful to humans and pets.

The results mark the second positive test results of the year for microcystin at Austin Lake after a previous advisory was issued in May
