PRICHARD, Ala. (WKRG) — Officials will break ground on a new Veterans Memorial Park, planned for Prichard to celebrate all U.S. Armed Forces members from the area who served, according to Legacy 166 and the 92nd Infantry Buffalo Soldiers World War II-Alabama Chapter.

According to a news release, the two non-profit groups have collaborated on the project, which will “highlight Southwest Alabama military history.”
“We have folks from this area that were part of some very legendary units, and the vets in this area make up a very special brother and sisterhood,” Eddie Irby, director of the 92nd Infantry Buffalo Soldiers, said. “We all support each other in the activities we conduct each and every year. I’m looking for this park to be a place where we can celebrate and reflect in our service to this country and where our history can be shared with young people so they can understand why they enjoy the freedoms that they enjoy…
