ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — While the Round Rock Express take on the Oklahoma City Comets at Dell Diamond on Wednesday evening, attendees can also learn how to better prepare themselves and their families for disasters and emergencies.
September is National Preparedness Month, an annual campaign aimed at helping people and communities get ready for emergencies before they happen. Throughout the month, cities and emergency management agencies across the nation will host events focused on preparedness and safety.
At Wednesday’s game, Austin Emergency Management, the city of Round Rock and other partner agencies will host Emergency Preparedness Night, where attendees can learn:
- How to create an emergency plan
- How to build an emergency kit
- How to stay informed during emergencies
- What hazards Central Texans should prepare for
“We see in the news all the time that there’s something happening. Whether its severe weather, we have excessive heat, winter weather, tornados — there’s a bunch of things that can happen here,” said Jim Redick, director of Austin Emergency Management. “If we learn more about what [can] happen, what we can do to prepare to minimize or eliminate the impacts on it, then we are all the better as a community.”…
