As the Essence Festival of Culture nears the end of its five-year contract with New Orleans this month, Essence officials on Wednesday touted the event’s 30-year history and a laundry list of reasons it should remain in New Orleans long term.
Sundial Media Group, Essence’s parent company, has asked the city for another multiyear agreement that defines what a successful festival looks like, beyond the three-day event’s growing popularity and the millions of dollars it has generated for the city over the years.
“As discussions with the city of New Orleans, the state of Louisiana and other stakeholders continue for 2027 and beyond, Sundial is seeking a sustainable, multiyear agreement that provides the certainty, shared investment and long-term planning required to support the Festival’s future in New Orleans,” Sundial officials said in a statement…
