HONOLULU (KHON2) — Hurricane Lowell has quickly grown stronger and is now a Category 5 hurricane, according to the 11:00 a.m. advisory issued Wednesday, September 2, by the National Weather Service Central Pacific Hurricane Center in Honolulu.
At the time of the advisory, Lowell was about 445 miles south of Hilo, Hawaiʻi, at 13.3°N, 154.3°W.
The storm was moving west at about 10 mph. Forecasters expected Lowell to keep moving west but said the storm would slowly lose some of its forward speed over the next few days…
