WILTON, N. Y. (WNYT) – A false active shooter call at Wilton Mall was used to pull police away as deputies investigated a Wilton burglary, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.
The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office said the false 911 report came in at about 5:27 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, while members of its Criminal Investigation Unit were on Renaissance Lane in Wilton following up on a burglary from Aug. 28.
The sheriff’s office said the call brought a rapid response from sheriff’s units, New York State Police and the Saratoga Springs Police Department. Authorities quickly determined the report was fraudulent and said it was an attempt by the burglary suspect to divert units from her location…
