Derek Bruce, a 46-year-old south Fort Worth father, worries about safety on Hemphill Street after a city survey determined the thoroughfare traffic patterns should be changed.
Starting in April 2027, city workers will restore Hemphill to four traffic lanes, two northbound and two southbound, plus a turn lane, from Seminary Drive to Allen Avenue near JPS Health Network complex. The current configuration of two traffic lanes with two bicycle lanes and bus access, initiated six years ago, will remain on Hemphill north of Allen Avenue.
