The return of homework, field trips and group projects is upon us. The 2026-27 school year started on Tuesday, Sept. 1 for the West Linn-Wilsonville School District and will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 8 for the Lake Oswego School District.
So what has changed from an enrollment perspective from last year?
Both school districts said enrollment numbers are tracking with student population forecasts that show slight declines over the next 10 years.

The Lake Oswego School District reported 356 registered kindergarten students ahead of the 2025-26 school year, 10 more than last year. Registrations are tracking closely with the enrollment forecast made by the Portland State University Population Research Center for the 2024 LOSD Long Range Plan.
