DELMAR, N.Y. (NEWS10) — An assisted living facility in Delmar was ordered by the Town of Bethlehem to close its building and vacate Thursday evening. The emergency order was issued to the privately owned Albany Center for Independent Living as a result of several building safety concerns.

The town said that while the operation and regulation of assisted living facilities is not within its purview, matters regarding the safety of buildings are. The Town of Bethlehem’s Building Division found serious violations of the Building Code that presented an imminent threat to the safety of residents, staff and visitors.
These findings included structural issues, electrical issues, elevator issues and mold infestation. According to town officials, the building division alerted the New York State Department of Health, which oversees all assisted living facilities in the state, and issued the Emergency Order to Vacate.
