KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Weeks away from her scheduled execution, attorneys for the only woman on Tennessee’s death row have appealed to the governor for clemency.
The legal team for Christa Pike have filed a clemency petition with Gov. Bill Lee asking that her death sentence be commuted to life in prison without the possibility for parole.

Pike is scheduled to be executed on September 30. She was 18 years old when she was sentenced to death in 1995. She and two others were convicted in the brutal murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer when all four teens were participating in Job Corps, a federal jobs training program for troubled adolescents, in Knoxville.
