A 45-year-old Riverview man is facing multiple criminal charges after critically injuring a motorcyclist in a hit-and-run crash Thursday morning and attempting to conceal evidence, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on September 3, 2026, along State Road 574, just east of the intersection with Chastain Road.
According to troopers, a 25-year-old Valrico woman was riding a Suzuki motorcycle westbound in the eastbound lane of the two-lane roadway. She was legally passing traffic in a designated passing zone as she approached the Chastain Road intersection. At the same time, 45-year-old Bobby Mwaten was driving a Ford Fusion westbound on the north shoulder of the road, preparing to make a U-turn.
Investigators reported that Mwaten began the U-turn without yielding the right-of-way to the oncoming motorcycle. The front of the Ford Fusion struck the front of the Suzuki, leaving the motorcyclist with serious injuries. Emergency responders transported the woman to a local hospital for treatment…
