Atlas N PS4427 covered hopper review

Atlas Model Railroad Co. is offering its Pullman-Standard 4,427-cubic-foot capacity three-bay covered hopper in a variety of new paint schemes. The N scale model, part of the manufacturer’s Master Line, is based on former Wm. K. Walthers Inc. tooling acquired by the Hillside, New Jersey-based manufacturer in June 2018.

Pullman-Standard introduced the low-side PS 4427 covered hopper in December 1963. Spotting features included sides that partially covered the bays and a 4-3-4 exterior post pattern. The carbuilder produced covered hoppers to this design through November 1966.

Our review sample, given to Model Railroader free of charge by Atlas Model Railroad Co., is decorated as BNSF Ry. No. 412006, part of the railroad’s 411888 through 412574 series.
