ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The region is still cleaning up on Friday after Wednesday’s severe storms, which led to five confirmed tornadoes, widespread power outages, and downed trees and power lines.
The National Weather Service surveyed the damage and confirmed reports of tornadoes in Seneca, Niagara, Genesee, and Orleans counties for Wednesday evening. Here’s where the tornadoes touched down:
- Waterloo in Seneca County
- Fayette in Seneca County
- Olcott in Niagara County
- Alexander in Genesee County
- East Shelby in Orleans County

Thousands still without power, mostly in Seneca County
The storms caused more than 80,000 homes or businesses to lose power in New York State. While most of those outages have been fixed, thousands remain.
As of Friday morning, over 2,500 NYSEG customers in Seneca County, mostly in Waterloo, are still without power. There are also nearly 300 RG&E customers without power in Monroe County. You can see the latest outage numbers for RG&E here, NYSEG here, and National Grid here…
