TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida State University grad student who was shot during last year’s deadly mass shooting on campus is now suing FSU’s Board of Trustees.Madison Askins was shot on campus after police say a gunman opened fire at the student union on April 17, 2025. She was one of the very first survivors to share their story, sitting down with 8 On Your Side just weeks after leaving the hospital.Now, one year later, Askins and her legal team have filed a lawsuit against the University, alleging that FSU failed to maintain a safe environment that day.
The complaint says, “The Plaintiff, MADISON ASKINS, sues the Defendant, THE FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES, for damages and demands judgment in excess of Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000.00), plus interest and costs, and demands trial by jury of all issues so triable.”
