Phoenix International Performs Emergency DNV-Compliant Hull Repair on Cargo Vessel

Upon contact with the client, Phoenix’s Chesapeake, Virginia dive team mobilized to Wilmington, Delaware, to conduct an initial assessment of the vessel’s underwater hull. Due to limited in-water visibility at this location, the vessel was relocated to Tradepoint Terminal in Baltimore, Maryland.

Following the inspection, a DNV compliant repair plan was developed, and Phoenix welder divers fit and welded a doubler plate to the exterior of the vessel’s hull. The team then continued repairs from inside the hull, performing full-penetration welding, comprised of root, fill, and cap weld layers. Additional repairs were completed on the vessel’s bilge keel, including trimming damaged areas to restore the structure. All repairs were completed with a DNV surveyor in attendance…
