Shelter in Place lifted after standoff in Wrightsville Beach

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – The Wrightsville Beach Police Department responded to the 2300 block of North Lumina Avenue at approximately 10:15 a.m. Saturday following a report of an armed male experiencing a mental health crisis.

As officers arrived, the man allegedly barricaded himself inside the home with a weapon. Officers evacuated people from the home and nearby homes and established a perimeter around the area.

North Lumina Avenue was closed at Circle Drive to allow room for responding officers to stage their equipment. Neighbors in the area were instructed to shelter in place through a CodeRed emergency notification…
