On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together discussing the Trojans Friday night week one beatdown of Fresno State, a 39-0 dominating shutout in the Coliseum. Head coach Lincoln Riley had his squad ready after a short week, looking much sharper than we saw in the opener against San Jose State. Fresno State head coach Matt Entz had his guys fired up to play the underdog role, but the Trojans talent and skill was simply too much for the Bulldogs.
Coach Hyde breaks down the game, starting with the defensive side of the ball. He was impressed with the shutout but still feels that this team can do even better on that side of the ball. He felt defensive coordinator Gary Patterson had much more control of this game and thinks it is something to build on for the rest of the season. On offense Coach Hyde feels quarterback Jayden Maiava is playing as good as anyone in the country and he loves that Riley is committing to the run game, even when it hasn’t been as successful as you would like.
