Interior of the Gomaco Trolley Shops
You may recall that in an earlier Grow Omaha article about streetcar vehicles, I mentioned a company near Omaha, the Gomaco Trolley Company in Ida Grove, Iowa (about 100 miles north-northeast of Omaha), that has been building replica trolleys (meant to look like historic streetcar vehicles) since 1982.
These vehicles are either used as the primary streetcar vehicle like in Little Rock, Memphis and Tampa or could be used for special events or seasonal operation. Although we are procuring modern streetcar vehicles from CAF, similar to the cars currently used in Kansas City and Cincinnati, it is important to know that there is a streetcar vehicle builder nearby with staff that has the knowledge and skills for building and maintaining these complex electric cars…
