A Corridor With a Troubling Recent History
A fatal train-related incident occurred in Moore earlier this year. In March, an Amtrak train struck and killed a pedestrian near the Indian Hills Road crossing, a case Hoodline covered in earlier reporting on that crossing, and that crossing was shut down for hours during the investigation. Just weeks before that, a fatal train collision struck nearby Norman along the same regional rail corridor.

State and Local Money Poured Into Crossing Safety
Moore and state officials have not ignored the risk. In April 2025, the City of Moore and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation broke ground on a nearly $30 million project to build a new BNSF railroad underpass at SE 4th Street, aimed at eliminating grade-crossing hazards along the corridor, per the City of Moore.
