Labor Day travelers to face higher costs and heavier traffic

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — If you’re hitting the road or heading to the airport to return home after the long Labor Day weekend, you’re far from alone, and you may want to leave a little extra time.

AAA says millions of Americans are traveling for the holiday weekend, and travelers are facing higher costs and heavier traffic. Gas prices are also trending higher, while airfare to some of the country’s most popular destinations is up compared with last year.

According to GasBuddy, the national average for regular gasoline is around $3.88 per gallon. Florida’s average is roughly the same, while drivers in Hillsborough County are seeing a little relief, with prices around $3.83 per gallon…
