LINCOLN, Neb. — For 17 years, Lincoln’s Air Park has been home to the Tire Rack Sports Car Club of America Solo National Championships, where more than 1,400 competitors gather to race and reunite with friends.
“That’s the thing we constantly talk about. You come here for the competition, but you stay for the people. And it’s legit. The competition is one aspect of it. But you have people that will come here knowing they’ll never trophy, they’ll never podium, but they’re going to come and they’re going to hang out because the nightlife is so good. We have so many different kind of parties at the end of the day,” said John Hunter, a race participant originally from Nebraska.
The event takes up about 120 acres of concrete at Air Park, adjacent to the Lincoln Airport. Racers and staff say it is the best surface in the country to host nationals…
