ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Storm chances will continue Monday for western and some northern areas of the state, with a marginal risk of flash flooding possible for western New Mexico where we could see a couple of stronger storms this afternoon and evening. A few isolated pop ups may occur in central New Mexico, so chance of rain is low for Albuquerque. South and eastern New Mexico locales are likely to stay dry.
Temperatures this morning have also been really warm in the metro, and across most of the state. Under partly to mostly cloudy skies, we’ve been at 78° until about 5:30 a.m., when we finally have had enough breaks in the clouds to get some cooling, allowing us to drop into the low 70s. We’ve been consistently more than 10° above our normal morning low. If we don’t fall to 69° or lower by midnight tonight, we will have a new record warm low for September 7th. Some northwestern and north-central towns are starting off about 10-15° warmer this morning than yesterday morning. Most of us are stuck in the 60s and 70s this morning.
Afternoon highs in New Mexico are forecast to rise into the 80s and 90s again today (and tomorrow). The metro may be similar to yesterday’s reading, which was 93°. Our previous record high for September 7th is 97° set back in 2023, so at least we should stay several degrees shy of tying or breaking that record. Tomorrow, we may come closer to challenging our previous record high, which is 94° set back in 1959…
