State Auditor calls for audit of Lincoln Fire & Rescue after $7.2M in 2025 overtime pay

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – State Auditor Mike Foley reports that Lincoln Fire and Rescue employees received more than $7.2 million in overtime pay last year and is calling for a performance audit of the department’s scheduling practices.

According to Foley’s letter, released early Tuesday morning, the data shows the top 100 overtime earners drew an extra $45,586 on average, boosting their total average annual pay to $160,584.

He then adds that LFR’s top 25 overtime earners received overtime pay averaging $72,247 during 2025, bringing their average total salaries to $189,342…
