‘A labor of love’: Kalamazoo affordable housing community welcomes first residents

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — After years of planning and construction, an affordable housing project in downtown Kalamazoo is finally coming to fruition.

The first residents have already moved into River’s Edge Apartments, a 228-unit development located near Gull Road and Harrison Street. It’s a joint venture between River Caddis Group and Standard Communities.

“It’s a truly affordable project,” John McGraw, president of River Caddis Group, explained. “It’s a mixed-income project.”

Of the 228 units, 184 are for people earning up to 60% of the area median income, according to McGraw. For one person in Kalamazoo County, that’s $44,280. The remaining 44 units are for those who earn 120% AMI or less…
