At least 4 shootings over violent Labor Day in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It was a violent Labor Day in the Bluff City as multiple people were shot as violence stretched from Parkway Village to Frayser.

Memphis Police investigated at least four shootings over 24 hours of the Labor Day holiday.

  • Early Tuesday morning a man was shot and killed at a Frayser apartment complex off Madewell Drive. Investigators believe the victim and the gunman had been in a fight prior to the shooting.
  • Also overnight a man was left in critical condition after a shooting in Parkway Village. Memphis Police say that incident happened off Cordell Street.
  • Two teenagers, a 14-year-old and 17-year-old, were injured after police say a group shot into a home off Keystone Street early Monday morning.
  • Police say a man was shot in the area of Court Square Park in downtown Memphis around 6:45 Monday night.  According to a report the victim saw two people arguing and tried to intervene — that’s when he got caught up in the tussle and was shot.

A man who asked not to be identified said he heard the shots in Court Square and his buddy jumped on a scooter to find the victim. They then jumped into action.

“I chased the dude to the fire department museum and lost him trying to get the police to stop,” he said.
