Gov. JB Pritzker said on Tuesday that he is “excited” about the prospect of a new Chicago White Sox ballpark and made it known he wants the team to stay in Chicago.
Speaking at a news conference in Bloomington, Pritzker was asked about the South Loop plan unveiled Saturday by Canal Edge, the development company controlled by White Sox minority owner Justin Ishbia. The proposal, branded The Railyards, would put a riverfront stadium on the current Amtrak 14th Street Coach Yard, across the river from the Chicago Fire’s new stadium site.
“I am excited about the prospect of the White Sox having new facilities, and I know that he has talked about funding most of that himself, and may need some help from the state, but I haven’t talked to him specifically about it,” Pritzker said…
