El Paso Sizzles at 96 as Hit-and-Run Storms Loom

El Paso is starting Tuesday with partly cloudy skies and temperatures near 79 degrees, but the calm morning will give way to another hot afternoon. The high is expected to reach 96 degrees, with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 3 and 5 p.m.

Hot Afternoon With A Narrow Storm Window

East-southeast winds should stay light at around 7 mph as temperatures climb through the 90s. Most lowland neighborhoods may remain dry, but storms that develop could bring sudden gusty outflow winds, brief heavy rain and localized flooding, according to the National Weather Service in El Paso.

Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low near 77 degrees. Storm chances rise again Wednesday night, when a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected after midnight.
