DETROIT — The Detroit City Council is directing the city’s legal department to look into what the city could do to diversify its energy infrastructure and reduce its reliance on DTE Energy after a tornado and storm left extensive damage.
The council voted unanimously on Sept. 8 to approve the measure and investigate what other cities have done. The council discussed the city’s dependence on DTE Energy, which has a legal monopoly on Detroit’s electrical and gas utility services.
