DES MOINES, Iowa — Thousands of residents in the Des Moines metro are without power Wednesday morning following overnight storms.
At one point on Tuesday, MidAmerican Energy reported that the storms affected power to over 34,000 people throughout the night, with a peak of roughly 24,300 customers losing power at once. As of 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, just over 4,000 were without power.
A spokesperson for MidAmerican Energy said that persistent lightning and heavy rain slowed restoration efforts overnight. Work to restore power will resume on Wednesday, with service expected to be restored by late afternoon…
