KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A prime piece of Downtown Knoxville real estate has sat unused since 2023 and city officials want to hear from the public on how the site should be redeveloped.
The 800 block of Howard Baker Jr. Avenue has been empty since the closure of the old Knoxville Police Department headquarters. Located adjacent to the Knoxville Civic Coliseum and Auditorium, it’s one of the most prominent pieces of vacant downtown real estate during a time when the city has significant development in recent years.
Knoxville gathering feedback on possible one-way traffic change for Union Avenue
The City of Knoxville and Community Development Corporation will host a family-friendly block party at the site on Saturday, Sept. 12 for people to share their ideas on how the site could be best utilized in the future. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with activities for kids, food trucks, and opportunities to connect with community partners.
