DES MOINES, Iowa– Gray’s Lake Park is commemorating the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with a tribute trail featuring 2,977 flags, one for each life lost on that somber day.
It is the 15th year that volunteers have planted nearly 3,000 flags to honor all those who lost their lives 25 years ago.

Parkgoers were seen Thursday taking photos of the tribute trail, while many took a moment to stop and reflect on that horrific day.
“I think it’s a good tribute for all the people who died,” Ron Barry of Urbandale said. “It really kind of gives you an idea of actually how many people we lost. But just by seeing all these flags, it took a lot of work to set these up, and I hope people walk through here and kind of try to remember it- a bad day for sure.”…
