We’ve reported on more than our fair share of police chases in 2026, but this pursuit is one of the wildest that we’ve seen yet. One man in Dayton blew through a police blockade, leading the cops to go after the suspect. During a foot chase, the man managed to enter one of the police cruisers and drove off. However, it wasn’t long before he was caught since he didn’t know how to use the brakes and crashed into a home with two people inside.
Officers learned man was a suspect in a homicide
On September 3 at around 11:47 p.m., an unnamed man in a Toyota SUV drove through an intersection “at a high rate of speed” while it was blocked by several cruisers from the Dayton Police Department, according to a post from Dayton Police & Fire on its official Facebook page.
The kicker is that the police cruisers weren’t there to catch the man in the first place and was cutting off traffic at W. Third St. and Gettysburg Ave. due to a crash. It’s unclear why the suspect drove recklessly through the blockade and “knocked down a street sign” as it sped past, but it wasn’t until the chase ended that officers learned the adult male was a suspect in a homicide in Miami Township and a suspect in an aggravated robbery in Moraine.
Dashcam footage shows the SUV driving on the other side of the road and hitting the middle divider as it continued to speed down the street. This prompted officers to chase the vehicle for nearly two minutes as it rushed through several residential side streets.
