Lansing bill targets hospital facility fees as lawmakers debate impact on care

LANSING, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — If you have looked at a medical bill lately, chances are you’ve seen charges that are adding to your bottom line, but you aren’t quite sure what they are for or if they’re really necessary.

A northern Michigan lawmaker introduced a bill in Lansing to address so-called facility fees; he says it will help lower costs while opponents say it puts care at risk.

“5770 addresses a significant problem facing our state,” said Rep. Curt Vanderwall, R-102nd District. “One that I hear about on a weekly basis, if not almost a daily basis, for my constituents and it’s the cost of healthcare.”…
