Alabama Power brings electrical safety training to Prattville first responders

Knowing what to do around electricity can make all the difference when first responders are facing an emergency. Local agencies got a firsthand look at those hazards during Alabama Power’s Safe-T-Zone training in Prattville on Sept. 10.

Held at the City of Prattville Public Training Facility, the 45-minute program was led by Alabama Power line workers using a custom-built trailer powered by 14,400 volts of electricity. The hands-on demonstrations showed how overhead and underground power lines can create dangerous situations, including what can happen when a meter is pulled during a house fire and how to respond when encountering a downed power line…
