PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Department of Health is alerting the public that a potentially rabid bat was seen at Roger Williams Park Zoo late last month.
Health officials said a group of visitors noticed the bat “exhibiting behavior consistent with rabies” in the zoo’s water play area on Monday, Aug. 24.
However, the bat was safely discarded before it could be tested for rabies, according to the health department. Officials said the incident wasn’t reported to them until this week since the zoo’s veterinarian considered it to be “a low risk of human exposure.”…
