While South Florida counties shattered long-standing temperature records, Escambia County still experienced a hotter-than-normal August as Florida endured its second warmest August in 132 years. The statewide average temperature reached 83.7 degrees, which was 2.6 degrees above normal, according to a Sept. 9 report from the National Centers for Environmental Information.
Escambia County was among six Florida counties classified as having “above average” temperatures in August. The other counties in that category were Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Gulf, Franklin and Clay.
