CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Faith Gayheart was a little girl growing up in Flushing, Queens, New York City, awed by the Twin Towers and with public service in her blood, as her father and two uncles had been officers with the NYPD.
“That was my thing — I always wanted to be a New York City police officer,” she said. “I remember going to police headquarters with my dad when I was a kid. I remember looking up at the Towers and getting so dizzy. For New Yorkers, they were our pillars of strength.”
But by 9/11, Gayheart had moved to Chesapeake and was a police officer there. That morning she got an unexpected call from a friend back in New York…
