Las Vegas Motor Speedway has asked Clark County for a pair of street signs, and the request is far more specific than the celebration posts circulating this week let on. Nothing has been renamed yet. What exists is an application, a staff review, and a hearing date of Sept. 15. The request turned up in county filings last week, and it has a wrinkle in it.
The application comes from Nevada Speedway LLC under the name of Patrick Lindsey, the speedway’s senior vice president and general manager. It asks the county to take one L-shaped private drive aisle on speedway property — logged in county records as Eren Drive, a name that has never actually been posted on a sign out there — and break it into two named segments. The leg running parallel to Las Vegas Boulevard North becomes Busch Brothers Drive. The leg feeding into Checkered Flag Lane becomes Rowdy Road.
The reasoning sits in the filing itself. Rowdy, the speedway argues, “has become synonymous with his identity,” and the name “provides a lasting connection to a person that became an important part of the history and identity of Las Vegas Motor Speedway.” Busch Brothers Drive is submitted as recognition of “the longstanding contributions and connection between Kurt, Kyle and the Busch family between the speedway, NASCAR and Southern Nevada.”…
