West Michigan hot air balloon pilot headed to world championship

WAYLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — A 26-year-old Wayland native is taking his passion for hot air ballooning to the world stage after winning the 2026 National Hot Air Balloon Championship.

Landon Kohtz recently claimed the national title, a major accomplishment in a sport that combines strategy, science, luck and precision.

“Definitely one of those things that I did not expect to win going in,” said Landon. “It feels awesome… I’m super stoked to have won it so early in my career.”…
