CLEVELAND (WJW) — A bridge near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport that suddenly closed for emergency repairs earlier this month could reopen by Thanksgiving, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

In an updated media release, ODOT officials said repairs to reopen the State Route 17 (Brookpark Road) bridge between West 220th Street and NASA Parkway – over Valley Parkway and the Cleveland Metroparks – could begin as early as this week.
The repairs are needed after “significant deterioration” was found in the floor beams supporting the bridge’s driving surface. ODOT said the work to repair several of the floor beams is expected to be complete by Thanksgiving.

ODOT had already been planning a major rehabilitation project for the bridge, with construction tentatively scheduled to begin in 2028. In the update, officials said design work continues for the major rehabilitation project, and construction is still expected begin in 2028.
The Brookpark Road bridge was closed immediately on Friday, Sept. 4.
Motorists are told they will need to use alternate routes while the bridge is closed. The following detours were recommended:
- Westbound: Traffic will be detoured via Grayton Road to I-480 west, then Clague Road to Brookpark Road.
- Eastbound: Traffic will be detoured via Clague Road to Interstate 480 east, then to the State Route 17/State Route 237 exit.
