Family of man killed near UC School of Medicine speaks out after deadly shooting

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – The parents of Jonaethyn Edwards are speaking out after losing their son to gun violence just days before his 25th birthday.

Edwards, 24, was shot and killed on East Shields Street eight days before his 25th birthday. A teen familiar with the juvenile court system is accused in the killing and appeared in court at the Hamilton County Juvenile Courthouse.

Family describes Edwards

“He was a fun-loving kid. Somebody that got along with all of his friends, really ambitious, really witty, smart, very smart,” a family member said.

“I can’t even explain the words of how I’m feeling right now. That’s my firstborn child. We had a relationship that was out of this world. We were very, very close,” Edwards’ mother said.

“You took my son. You didn’t just take a son, you took a father, a brother, a friend. You took somebody that really mattered, not only to us, but to the community,” Edwards’ mother said…
